Day ONE of creation- LIGHT!

What a fun packed day it was today!
With our eyes closed, we talked about how Hashem was alone and there was nothing else. Hashem decided to create a world! For six days He worked, each day creating something else. On the First day Hashem created light, so this week we will be exploring light! As we discussed this, we talked about what it would be like if there was no light. "It would be scary" Sara commented.

We made stained glass lanterns to put up in our classroom during rest time when the light are off.

We placed a strong light under the sand table and as we played with the sand we saw some light coming through. Some friends used their fingers to draw letters or pictures.

Sara noticed the light, creating a shadow on the wall. "Why is the shadow copying you? She asked. That gave us something to think about.

Soon after, Peretz joined Morah Mushka in the hallway with no lights on. There he began to engage with the projector which was lit up. He placed some objects on and enjoyed seeing them on the wall. He brought the translucent magna tiles into the hallway and placed some squares on top of it. Wow. We saw all of the colors on the wall!
Then he decided to try the bucket that held the magna tiles. Morah Mushka pointed out that now there were no colors on the wall. (Because the bucket is clear.)
"Yes, there are colors" He said, pointing at the projector. "I see the rainbows!" (On the projector itself.)

Soon Sara and Dalia joined us in the hallway. Peretz had just put a soup ladle on the projector. Dalia put her hand on the wall. "I'm touching it" She said. Sara added, "It's moving because Peretz is moving it." (He was moving the mirror on top which moved the objects to the ceiling and back to the wall.) That began a game which had all of us giggling, as Dalia and Sara tried to catch the objects on the wall that Peretz was moving.

We also noticed that when we put two color magna tiles on top of each other we saw the colors change.

Sara tried putting different shapes on the projector which created a cool design on the wall.
Team work cleaning up the toys.

At snack we lit candles and put them in our lanterns. It was so beautiful to see the light shine through the colors! We can't wait to use them in our classroom.

We all had a GREAT TIME in the pool!!!!

Black and white cookie baking to represent light and dark! Look at all these helpers!
