Apples and honey

Today, morah Moshka celebrated Shabbat with us. Sarah helped with the candles, Jacob helped with the Kiddush and Mendel with the motzi.
We were talking about how close Rosh Hashana is and it would be nice to eat apples and honey.
After all the drops of honey accumulated, today the children said that they are up to the top with all the honey on their apples.
They are going to have the sweetest new year ever!!
Shana Tova Umetuka!!!

How happy are you?

For the last two weeks the children are tasting a drop of honey and accumulating sweetness every meeting time. The honey is filling their tummies for a happier Rosh Hashana.
These are the faces they made to show how happy they are today.
We counted the days as there are not many left to fill them up.

Almost there...

The children are getting ready for Rosh Hashana.
Their cards are getting ready. They learned how to say Shana Tova!
They decorated honey bowls, learned about bees, honey combs and tasted the sweetness of honey.
Sweet is good! We are going to have a good year!
They learned the sounds of the shofar, I hope they can make them at home for you to hear.
During our meetings we are counting the days for Rosh Hashana and the excitement is growing as the numbers decrease.

Honey bowls and flowers

Today the children made special honey bowls to take home. When unpacking the bowls the children were excited to see "flowers" in between them.
The thought was, if I'm a bee, how my favorite flower would look like?

Later in the day, the children had a sensory experience painting with glitter glue on glass.

Honey Comb

The boys were excited about Mr. Dino because he had his kippah on.

Today the children met Mr and Mrs Dino.
They are going to come and celebrate Shabbat with us. They even have a Shabbat song!

Today I brought a real honey comb for the children to explore. Elet said that was that was squishy, and Chaya'la said that were too many holes.

They all felt the texture and we talk about the bees making honey.

It was hard to understand so I put some honey on the honey comb and they were excited to see it spread through the holes. Nechama Lieba said that's why so many holes!

The Shofar Blast

Today the children blew through different kinds of pipes, listening to their sounds.

Sara liked the PVC sound because was strong.

The metal pipe was the one they liked the best,  the sound was going far, Peretz said.

Sara, Hilary and Peretz experimented with two pipes together. We were surprised when the sound came out louder.

During meeting time we discussed about the sounds of the shofars, the rams, what happen to the animal, the size  and colors. All children tried to make sounds resembling sounds of the shofar.

Feeling the shofar

Sara and Peretz are experimenting with pipes made of different materials and pipes.

Jacob is checking to see the beans coming on the other side of the PVC pipe.

The children were looking for different sounds.

The children touched a shofar and told me that they felt scratchy.

Here Mendel is mixing sand to the paint to feel the texture when finger-painting.

With the rain falling the children played inside.

 Building with straws and connectors.

Jacob showed his friends how to make a circle.

Peretz made a fishing rod.

Mendel and Hilary realized that connecting squares together they could build an elevator.
