Shabbat Shalom!

Working with eye droppers helps develop fine motor skills. Here Sara and Peretz use eye droppers with watercolor paint to make additional designs on our tablecloth.
Sara helps wash the table from the residue of the water color
Jacob makes a J with his challah dough and proudly shows it to his friends.
We do a counting Challah felt story. We pay close attention to the amount of challahs being bought in the story so we can figure out how many challahs remain.

Today we had some extra excitement during water play! We had a water slide that our friends thoroughly enjoyed! We waited patiently for our turn so that everyone got a chance to slide.

For Shabbat celebration, our friends requested that we use the tablecloth that we had made. Thanks to the sun it was dry so we were able to make use of it!

Water Show and Share!

Jacob helps prepare snack by coring the apple.
Peretz picks out the seeds and counts them. He counts 10 seeds!
Something new at our writing center: A ring of note cards with words that the children relate to. Some of our siblings names are there, as well as summer words. Our friends have been writing all morning!
Dalya brought in some worms that she found outside. We talk about how we will care for them.
Jacob decorates his "world" with blue for water, and cotton for clouds.

Jacob shows us his Buz Light Air Cap.
Sara blows her balloon for us! "We can blow it but also put water in it" She says.

Dalya shows her friends her bandaids in the case. "If we hurt ourselves, we can dry it off, and put it on." Peretz relates to that. He tells us how he gets hurt sometime by the big pool because the ground is bumpy.

Peretz shows us how to press the button on mommy's umbrella for when it rains.
Sara helps measure out the salt for the challah dough.

Float or Sink?

Painting sea shells. Peretz asks Sara what colors she used to make light blue. Here Peretz and Dalya try their own color combinations too.
Sara writes the number 4 answering the question of how many people are in her family.
Each sea shell has a number written on it. We use them to count.
Sara says she likes her bread cooked. Peretz adds some extra drama and imagination as he puts on an accent.
Jacob uses his squirter to fill the water hose from its end.
Using measuring cups to make a "kugel"
Peretz balances the cup on his head.
In the pool, Dalya shares something with Morah Mushka about this red toy she is playing with. "I put my foot really hard and so it's not coming up." She waited another minute, and still it did not come up from the water. Dalya found this to be very interesting.
We then all went inside to our classroom and chose an object. Will it sink to the bottom or float to the top? We hypothesized. With some we were right, and other surprised us! Some items sunk to the bottom, some floated, and one car stayed in the middle!
Music and Movement with eggs. We pretend they are the rain and shake them hard when it's pouring!
Thank you to Sara's Bubby who gave us a book all about sharing!

Liquid, Solid, and Gas!

Sara squeezes oranges. She sees the liquid juice in her cup.

Sara and Dalia feel the cold ice cubes in the pot. The ice cubes are solids. We talk about matter and it's different properties.
Dalia pours the squeezed liquid juice into an ice pop maker. We then bring them to the freezer for tomorrow.
 "We are making cupcakes."
We mix water with corn starch to see what it will feel like on our hands. Its interesting how water can change things. Sara draws and S with her finger.

It turned into an amazing sensory experience!

A few hours later we came back to the pot. The ice was gone!
Sara- "It's water!
Morah Mushka- "What happened?"
Dalia- "It melted. When you keep it for a while, then it melts."
Sara- "In the freezer it gets cold and hard."

Here we see the liquid form- water.
Using water color we decorated a beautiful table cloth for our classroom!

Working with a spray bottle helps to strengthen and provide joint awareness sensory input to the hand. It also helps encourages using separate sides of the hand which impacts fine motor skills.
We put the pot of melted ice/water onto the stove. We watch as it gets hot and starts boiling. Suddenly we see something coming up from the pot. "Its steam" said Dalia.

With this we had witnessed the same substance in all three properties- Solid, liquid, and gas!
 "Look, It's a pattern."

Day 2- Water and Sky

We had a wonderful day today!

 Building with magna tiles.
Print making- Using different shaped items and paint we created interesting designs. Then we gently placed another paper on top of it and pressed down. Then we seperated them, revealing the identical image on both papers.

Swimming swimming in the swimming pool!

Dalia and Sara jumping up and down as they sing "Torah, Torah".
Peretz reads our "Days of creation" picture book, sharing with us that Hashem created the water and sky on the second day. As we discussed Hashem creating all of these things, Sara pointed something out. "Hashem made them so it will be all ready for the people." What a good point! Perhaps Hashem created people last so that the world would have everything in it and would be inhabitable. How does water help people live?

Peretz: "People can float in the water. Also boats."
Dalia: "People need water for drinking."
We looked at a diagram of the water cycle. We discussed it, and sang about it.

Then we mimicked it ourselves using cotton balls and water. When the 'clouds' filled with water, we saw the 'rain' dripping down!

We also read a book called "What is a River?" We heard about streams forming rivers and water falls.
Sea shells in the sand table.
We use the light and magnifying glass on the projector to take a closer look at the sea shells.
We thought of words that could describe the sea shells. First we asked questions about the sea shells (What size, shape, color, feel, smell, sound), and then gave answers that brought us to many descriptions of the sea shells.

Peretz- "I see lines." "Here is a tiny one."
Sara: "Its humongous!" (through the magnifying glass)
Dalia: "It feels scratchy. "It looks like a circle."
Sara: "I can hear the ocean."
Peretz: "Put it by your ear and move it like this. Then you can hear the ocean."
Peretz: "I made a waterfall." (With the sand)

We fill up an ice tray with water and some other things inside for an activity tomorrow.

Peretz: "It's gonna get frozen"
Sara: "We need to put it in the freezer."
Dalia: "When we take it out it will be freezed."
