Lag B'omer Fun!

Ofir picking up Moshe to reach the monkey bars.

The Yeladim started jumping off the airplane saying, "Bungee Jumping!"

When we got back, we 'roasted' marshmallows on skewers over our bonfire.

A Visit to a Vegetable Garden

Today we discussed the miracle Carob tree and stream of water Hashem made grow near the cave of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai while he learned Torah there. Interestingly enough carob fruit is high in protein and is twice the amount of calcium than milk! (among many other nutrients)
Below the Yeladim are writing 'carob tree.'

We read a story about how Lag B'omer is celebrated in Israel and in Meron - the resting place of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai.
Since it is already Lag B'omer in Israel the Yelaim got to see Ronny celebrating already! That was so exciting for the Yeladim and brought all our learning to a whole new level!

We were invited to visit a vegetable garden! Mrs. Foont explained what each plant was going to yield soon. We are looking forward to our very own Parsley & Basil in our classroom!

The Yeladim enjoyed climbing on her play structure as well!

Lag B'omer Inspired Centers

Yesterday the Yeladim drew cards and wrote notes to Ronny since it was her last day. Ronny is taking a trip to Israel and will not be back before the end of school. We will really miss her!!

Zalman and Ofir built a mini bonfire and are using their fine motor skills to cut out pieces of 'fire.'

The Yeladim below are coloring a rainbow since a rainbow never showed through out Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai's lifetime since he was such a big Tzaddik.

Moshe is building a fence around the bonfire so nobody should get hurt getting too close.

Using clay to shape a cave.

Our discussion at meeting time opened up about a Shepherd. Does anyone know what a Shepherd is?
Zalman: he holds a stick
Shmuli: watches sheeps

Do you know of any other Shepherds?
Moshe: Moshe!!

We talked about the story of Rabbi Akiva and how he didnt even know all the Aleph Bet that we know! But then he worked very hard to learn a lot of Torah and he bacame a big Tzaddik.
Bella: My Daddy learned the Torah ... in shul and also at home and at night.... not in a cave.....

Moments in our Day

Thank you to the Kaplan family for being the Fruit Family this week!

Digging and searching for bugs and worms.

Each day we add a bead/ gem to our Sefirat Haomer counting until we will be ready to receive the Torah. We spoke about how each day is a gem and we are able to make good choices that would make Hashem happy. As we go through each day and become nicer to our friends we are more ready to receive the Torah.

The Yeladim wrote 'Thank you' cards to Allie and Stan for inviting us to visit at their Garden.

Today we celebrated Ofir's Birthday!
Below he is cutting out his own crown. He also wrote his new age on it by himself!

He showed us pictures of when he was little and he was sooo cute! He told us about what he was able to do at each age. Then we spoke about what are the new things he will be able to do now that he is 5!

Everyone gave Ofir a wish/ said something they like about him.

Ofir was so thoughtful and brought a present to our class!

We got to read it at the party and will enjoy it for many more years to come! Thank you!

Visit to 'A Secret Garden'

About 2 weeks ago the Yeladim had written letters to a owners of a garden we have been observing since the beginning of the season with questions and comments.
Last week the wonderful owners stopped by our classroom to introduce themselves and invite us to their 'Secret Garden.' We arranged to visit them this afternoon. WOW it was amazing! Allie and Stan led us through their Garden and explained a lot about Habitat, plants and trees, and small animals. What a great Science lesson!
There were lots of pathways leading to all interesting types of benches and arches and lots more!

Allie and Stan asked the Yeladim if they could spot the secret hide out they created in their habitat for the chipmunks when predators were after them. Can you spot it?

This part they named 'Children's Garden' since they had created balancing stools and some other interesting things for children.

Stan pointed out how the squirrels had eating at the garden house since they tried to get inside.

Yet another pathway led to a beautiful gazebo where there were fake owls. Stan explained the birds thought they were real and this kept them away.

A pond!

Allie and Stan were such greacious hosts and were lovely with the children! What a treasure the Yeladim uncovered - 'Habitat' right in our neighborhood!
