Constructive Playtime

Playtime can seem superficial yet when we look beneath the surface it is an extremely intense time for children to collaborate, learn and grow. Here is a peek at an incident that happened today.

Shmuli and Zalman had been building a train track. The people on the train had a beautiful sight to watch as they rode - animals grazing. There was a small problem. There was not enough room for all the animals to eat.
Morah: Any ideas how we can help the animals to all be able to eat?
Shmuli: They can take turns!
Zalman suggested a bigger block.

Then the Yeladim tried it to see if it worked. Indeed it had! There was enough space for all the animals to eat. What a valuable lesson in problem solving.

Morah: How will the animals know the food is here?
Ayelet decided to make a sign and wrote 'food' in her special code.

Below Ayelet is reading her sign to her friends before she places it near the food for the animals.

The Yeladim got into a discussion what do animals eat.
Moishe: A farm feeds the animals. They eat hay. No only chickens.

Ayelet went to find something to make hay from. She got to work cutting it.
Ayelet had been fringing the paper with her scissors.
Binyamin: You have to cut them off.
Ayelet: I'm trying to but I can't.
Morah helped Ayelet hold the scissors in the proper hold and Ayelet did it! She felt proud to drop the hay in the chicken coop. She announce "Here is some hay!"

Skills learned: Collaboration (working as a team, listening to others), Problem solving, Pencil and scissor grasp.
